OUR STORY

and  nioSizakuyenza, meaning “We will do it!”, was founded in 2005 to respond to the severe social challenges in Philippi, Cape Town. At the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, families were torn apart, leaving many child-headed households and increased abuse against women and children. Misunderstanding of the disease, along with rising substance abuse, deepened the crisis.

To provide safety and psychosocial support, Sizakuyenza established the Safe Home and developed programmes for Families and Children and Substance Abuse. Today, the organisation runs three core programmes: Victim Empowerment , Community Outreach, Children and Families. Recognising the intertwined impact of HIV, substance abuse, and gender-based violence, Sizakuyenza also conducts workshops addressing these issues as a destructive cycle that continues to affect the community.
